Please note, Reynolds has NOT recently moved. They have just been assigned an address in Buxton.

Reynolds carries and services Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki motorcycles. There is a BMW dealer in Falmouth (north of Portland - Street Cycles, 405 Route 1 207-781-4763) and a Harley-Davidson dealer in Portland (Big Moose Harley-Davidson 207-797-6061, contact Steve Reynolds or Terry Dean, Parts/Service Advisor, Exit 8 off the Maine Turnpike I-95).

Directions: Reynolds Sportcenter is located on US Route 202, 4 miles west of Gorham (approximately 14 miles west of Portland), Maine in the town of Buxton. From Interstate-95, take Maine Turnpike exit 5 (marked Interstate 195) located near mile marker 33. One-quarter mile after the toll booth take exit 1 (marked "To Route 112"). At the bottom of the ramp at the stop sign, turn left (follow sign "To Route 112"). Go 1/2 mile to T intersection and turn right onto Route 112 North (Note: in some places, Route 112 is marked west, but it is the same road.). Ride 8 miles to US 202 and turn right (east) on US 202. Go 2.1 miles. Reynolds is on the left.

Emergency repairs, oil changes, and other services are available.

Buxton and Gorham are very small towns located approximately 12 miles west of Portland, Maine. If you need to find a motel near the checkpoint, it is probably best to head to Portland or South Portland (which is the area just east of the intersection of I-95 and I-295 to the south of Portland). In south Portland on US 1 there is an EconoLodge (207-774-5891, $89) or two smaller motels; the Maine Motel (606 Main Street, 207-774-8284 $65), and Sandman Motor Inn (207-773-5722 $60). In the "Maine Mall" at I-95 exit 7, Days Inn ($80 or $72 with AAA discount, 207-772-3450). Please remember that this is prime tourist country during the height of vacation season. For cheaper accommodations, you may want to head to Massachusetts before stopping for the night!

There is also a Motel 6 in Portland, Maine that is fairly convenient to reach. It is located in Portland, at I-95, Exit 8 (the sign is clearly visible from I-95) 207-775-0111

1) Town or City, 2) State, 3) Time, 4) Odometer Reading, 5) Gallons (to the nearest 1/10 of a gallon)

NOTE: For any bonus that uses a gas receipt, you do NOT have to obtain a duplicate receipt to earn these points.

500 POINTS - DECLARE YOUR ROUTE!

To earn these points you must provide a written account of your route from this checkpoint to the next as outlined below:

____ Turn in your route at the checkpoint within 90 minutes of the closing time of the checkpoint (120 minutes at the Washington checkpoint)

____ You must provide a list of the bonuses you are planing to visit (bonus code is sufficient to meet this qualification) in the order you are going to visit them on the enclosed form

NOTE: You may change your route during the rally, however, if doing so, you should immediately contact family members with the new directions you are taking.

The object of this bonus is to assist your family to locate you should the need arise. Except in the event of an emergency, we will not open the envelopes until after the conclusion of the rally, however, you must provide the required information. Should we see at the end of the rally you turned in this bonus on each leg that did not remotely match what your actual riding plan was (i.e., there is a pattern of deception in order to earn the 500 points), you may face one or all of the following penalties:

- A loss of the bonus points

- A fine of 10,000 points per leg

- Possible disqualification from the rally itself

FAR NORTH ALASKA AND CANADA BONUSES IMPORTANT NOTES

It is possible that roads may be closed and/or impassable due to rain or snow!

If you attempt any bonus north of 60 degrees latitude, no credit will be given for road conditions, road closures or impassable roads. It is imperative that you study weather and other conditions before heading to the far north.

PLEASE BE CLEAR ON THIS IMPORTANT POINT BEFORE LEAVING THE CHECKPOINT!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

Some bonuses located in the far north say you MUST skip the Maine checkpoint and instead return to Alabama. While you will NOT receive credit for the Maine checkpoint, neither will you be penalized for not making it either if you earn these bonuses.

The Maine to Alabama leg of the rally contains less than 25,000 points in bonuses in addition to the 6,000 points you will not earn by skipping the Maine checkpoint. There will not be enough points on the last leg of the rally to overcome the points available to someone that rides to the following Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay bonus. Additionally, someone that completes many of the Alaska bonuses will have the same advantage. Carefully do the math before committing to upper Alaska bonuses!

Not a good place to hang around for too long!

Take a picture of the "Great Storm" sign out side the Great Storm theater at Pier 21.

The United States deadliest hurricane, and worst weather disaster, slammed into Galveston Island on September 8, 1900 killing a confirmed 6,000 people, with some estimates as high as 12,000 people. The entire eastern, western, and southern edges of the city were leveled for blocks by the storm surge. Although storm warnings were posted only about 100 of the Galveston Island residents who stayed behind survived the storm. Most people drowned… If that was not enough to get you to move, in 1915 despite a 10 foot high sea wall built after the 1900 hurricane, storm tides 12 feet above normal flooded the town to a depth of six feet. 275 people lost their lives from a combination of high water and strong winds.

Galveston Island, Texas is located in southeast Texas on the Gulf of Mexico at the southeast end of I-45 approximately 50 miles south of Houston. The Great Storm Theater is located on top of Willie G’s next to the Texas Sea Port museum at Pier 21. Pier 21 is located between 21st and 22nd and should be easy to find.
